Enjoy an Afternoon Outdoors With Charles River Canoe & Kayak
Growing up, you probably adhered to the rule that you should wait 30 minutes to swim after snacking—but no one ever said anything about eating barbecue after kayaking. Charles River Canoe & Kayak hosts a Barbecue Kayak Tour that begins with some exercise on the river and ends with a picnic back at the dock, courtesy of Redbones of Somerville.
It’s just one of the guided tours that the staff offers. If you want to explore on your own, simply rent a kayak at the Kendall Square location in Cambridge and hit the water. This stretch of the river doesn’t have a current, so you can go in either direction and easily make it back to home base when you get tired. As you paddle, make note of the landmarks along the river banks, like the Zakim Bridge, the campuses of M.I.T. and Boston University, and the Museum of Science.
